All this week, the state Department of Transportation is urging Connecticut commuters to share a ride.
The DOT is promoting CTrides Week through Friday.
The goal is to get drivers, for at least one day, to take advantage of several ride-sharing options instead of driving alone.
DOT Commissioner James Redeker said the week gives the department the opportunity to showcase advantages of using ridesharing and greener travel options available statewide.
A number of government agencies, planning agencies, educational institutions, and non-profits have committed to promoting CTrides events.
Officials say sharing a ride can have a positive impact on the environment by helping to reduce CO2 emissions.
Also, they say a commuter who switches to public transportation has the added benefit of a less stressful commute.
