HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Connecticut’s Department of Transportation says its plows are having a hard time keeping up with the fast-accumulating snow.

DOT spokesman Kevin Nursick says conditions are poor as snow is falling at two to three inches an hour in some areas.

He says drivers will encounter a significant amount of snow on the roads.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says 632 state trucks and 200 contractor trucks have been clearing the roads Thursday.

The governor says 300 members of the Connecticut National Guard are on standby in case their assistance is needed.

The storm is forecast to bring as much as a foot of snow or more to Connecticut.
