The state Department of Transportation today announced that a bridge along the route of the Hartford Marathon will be ready for Saturday’s race.
As a press conference was held nearby, workers installed metal grates on the side of Broad Street, and put down pavers in the space between the sidewalk and the curb on the edge of the street.
The Broad Street bridge was rebuilt so the busway could travel underneath it.
DOT Commissioner James Redeker says some additional work will be performed after the race.
“We are not completed yet, but the original surface is down,” Redeker said. “We will come back after the race, about a month later we will have the final pavement layer down.”
Last year, the DOT put down temporary pavement, to allow runners to cross the bridge.
